I thoroughly enjoyed this book, “Obie Mann”. I found it to be captivating with appropriate humor incorporated to uncloak such an important message about the 1921 Black Wall Street massacre. I highly recommend this book as a part of American black history. It is an easy read. Thanks to the Mann family for sharing their story.

This book is a must read of the bravery of a black man and the horrific fight to save his community. As a 50-year-old black man and what we go through today, I can’t even begin to fathom what they went through back then.

I enjoyed the book “Obie Mann” and the story about 1921 Tulsa. It brought to light and dealt into a reality hidden about the black race experience that showed gallantry, determination and resilience that continues today.

The book is an incredibly well-written account of the Tulsa Race
Massacre, centered around the character of Obie Mann. Through his
eyes, the reader is led on a journey through his life in the city. Obie’s
personal story weaves through the backdrop of historical events,
including his military service in World War I, which adds depth to his character. The author masterfully transports you to the heart of the
tragedy, making you feel as if you are right there, witnessing the
horrifying events as they unfold. Obie's experiences, both as a Black
man and a member of a thriving community, give readers an intimate
understanding of the events that led up to the Tulsa riots and the
aftermath that followed. The vivid, emotional storytelling is both moving and heart-wrenching, stirring deep feelings of empathy and outrage. It does not shy away from the devastating impact of the massacre, leaving readers with a profound sense of the pain and loss experienced by the Black community in Tulsa. This book is a poignant reminder of a tragic chapter in American history, and it will stay with you long after you turn the last page.

We are living in a day and time of heightened racial tension. Attempts
are being made to rewrite American history and ignore the true stories behind "the land of the free and the brave." The reality is there is a lot of ugliness in America's past, and the Tulsa Massacre is one of them. It is a riveting book from beginning to end that reads like a novel. It sets the record straight, about how one man, Obie Mann, confronted racism head on. It is a riveting book that reads like a novel. Very few know the story of how Mr. Mann organized a group of armed Black men to serve as a Militia to protect the Greenwood Community Black residents built...one of the most prestigious Black communities in America. Obie Mann is an unsung hero in American History. This book should be on the "must-read" list of every middle school and every high school student in America. A proper understanding of history prevents us from repeating the mistakes of yesteryear. Tulsa became the first U.S. city bombed by air. The current efforts in our country to bring "law and order" to civil unrest make this story even more relevant, especially considering the injustice of such efforts.
